Potassium Iodide !

i went to collect my pendrive from my coursemate yesterday at lab,
meanwhile waiting to collect my thesis draft too,
and accidentally i saw these ....

What do you know about Potassium iodide (KI) ?

  • Potassium iodide (also called KI) is a salt of stable (not radioactive) iodine. Stable iodine is an important chemical needed by the body to make thyroid hormones. Most of the stable iodine in our bodies comes from the food we eat. KI is stable iodine in a medicine form.

It has become popular after the Japan tsunami, the nuclear crisis, and people are crazy for it, buy in bulk quantity, scammers convince the consumers ... etc ...

Yet peoples should not buy or take potassium iodide unless notified or instructed by health officials, the experts say.

The FTC notes potassium iodide, which can protect the thyroid, cannot prevent radioactive iodine from entering the body or reverse the health effects caused by radioactive iodine once damage to the thyroid has occurred (Francine Knowles, 2011)

Read more information from CDC for What is KI !

p/s: of course the chemicals in the photo is not for consumption .. they are AR- analytical graded .... not edible
