If you are interested in doing a masters program, the chances are one of the main things that could be holding you back are concerns about how are you actually going to fund your course. With the going rate for a masters degree and living expenses often as high as £25,000, it's no surprise that students find themselves searching for new and creative ways of funding a masters programme. For a practical solution, you can apply for a £500 Postgrad Solutions Study Bursary. Alternatively, we have come up with a number of ingenious ways you could get your hands on some cash to help with your costs:
Be a barista while training to be a barrister!
You could get a job in your local coffee shop - we estimate that you'd need to make just over 115,000 lattes to cover your costs. What is it they say? Wake up and smell the coffee...
Scrap it!
Recycling scrap metal can be quite a lucrative business, the price of copper in particular is going through the roof at the moment. This has been reflected in the recent spate of thefts of the copper wiring that is installed in the London Underground - in fact British Transport Police are saying that at the moment this is their biggest challenge after terrorism! However, these thefts cause misery for thousands of commuters, can be extremely dangerous for the thieves when the cabling they’re after is lineside, and are of course illegal - so don't get any wise ideas!
Tattoo your torso
There is a case of a woman who was paid $10,000 by a company to tattoo their URL on her forehead - but we think that is pretty extreme. We estimate that if you manage to get sponsorship to tattoo seven adverts on your body, this could fund the costs of your degree... but remember a tattoo is for life, not just for Christmas - unless you then want to opt for some pretty painful, not to mention expensive, laser removal afterwards... which kind of defeats the purpose!
Survey the situation...
Taking online surveys is a good way to make a bit of extra cash - not to mention a lot less dangerous or painful than our previous two suggestions! However be warned, we estimate that you'd need to fill in almost 8,000 surveys - which could eat in to your valuable studying time somewhat. It is actually more lucrative to test the actual surveys - but this can still take up quite a lot of time.
